Additional Information:
The Dom Hélder Câmara Project is connected with the Secretariat of Territorial Development – SDT, in the Ministry of Agrarian Development – MDA, providing technical assistance for over 11,000 small farmer families and settlers in 8 territories of 6 states in the Northeast. It is focused on local, participative and fair trade processes and sustainability.

The Northeast Semi-Arid Agrarian Reform Settlement Sustainable Development Project – Dom Helder Câmara Project (PDHC), is a government project created from an International Loan deal between the Federative Republic of Brazil and the International Development Fund – FIDA, and is connected to the Ministry of Agrarian Development’s Territorial Development Secretariat.

The main goal of the project is to strengthen local participative and solidary processes aimed at social construction of sustainable human development for family-based farming. In order to carry out the numerous activities, direct execution partnerships are established for Permanent Technical Assistance (ATP), through civil society organizations.

The project currently provides assistance for 11,443 settler farmer families scattered over eight territories of the Brazilian semi-arid region, in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte,
Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí and Sergipe. PHDC sees in the Northeast & Cerrado Room at the 2007 ExpoSustentat a rare opportunity for family-based farmers, as well as related technical experts to advertise their products, expand their perspectives for production and marketing, gain access to information about regulations and criteria demanded by different markets, and also close deals.

Depoimento
“A agroecologia é importante porque o homem depende da natureza, do que ela traz para ele; e a natureza precisa dos cuidados do homem para manter-se viva. É uma relação de troca permanente”.
